Battery Park

Battery Park in Lower Manhattan was devastated by Hurricane Sandy from historical levels of water surge, which caused billions in damage. The Community Center of BPS Ball Fields are community staples for the residents in Battery Park, which is located just blocks away from the Hudson River. Hurricane Sandy left them closed for weeks, sending ripples throughout the community and leaving officials searching for ways to ensure that this would never be the case again. This search led the Battery Park City Authority to Floodproofing.com. After assessing the situation and reviewing solutions, they settled on using Muscle Wall, which replaces thousands of sandbags and is easily deployable. The Muscle Wall system was designed to be a temporary solution that was taken down after the 2019 hurricane seasons and will eventually be replaced with a permanent system.
